A recipe for some delicious Italian bread
First, heat your oven to 200˚C. Next, prepare the dough.
Mix the yeast and sugar together to form a paste. Then sift the flour into a bowl and make a smal hole in the centre. Pour the yeast mix into the hole, cover the hole with flour and then set to one side. In another bowl, mix the water, salt and olive oil and then pour this into the flour, stirring firmly until the mixtures come together in a dough.
Knead the dough in the bowl for around 10 minutes then remove it from the bowl and sprinkle some flour onto a wooden chopping board. Knead for another 5 minutes until the dough is starting to get a nice, elastic smooth feel to it, then place back in the bowl, cover with clingfilm and pop the bowl somewhere warm. Leave to rise for 2 hours.
Once the dough has doubled in size, remove it from the bowl, place onto a floured surface and roll into a large ball. Line a baking sheet with baking paper, place the ball of dough onto the baking sheet and leave it in the oven to rise for another hour, placing a glass bowl of water at the bottom of the oven to stop the dough from drying out.
After an hour, take the dough out and preheat the oven to 200˚C.
Once heated, carve several lines (about 1cm deep) into the top of your bread dough and bake at 200°C for 45-50 minutes until golden brown on top. Allow to cool.
